Police-reported crime statistics in Canada, 2016 (2017)

This 2017 article from Statistics Canada uses information from its annual Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Survey and through the General Social Survey (GSS) on victimization, conducted every five years, to explore trends in the volume and severity of police-reported crime at the national, provincial/territorial and census metropolitan area levels. Findings include an increase in rate for: sexual violations against children (+30%), offences related to the commodification of sexual activity (+11%), aggravated sexual assault (+6%), and forcible confinement or kidnapping (+4%).
