Understanding FGM/C to Better Support Survivors: 5 Tips for Service Providers

Female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) is a form of gender-based violence against women and girls rooted in gender inequality. This Facebook Live will provide 5 important tips to help strengthen service providers’ understanding of FGM/C to provide culturally-sensitive, survivor-centred, and trauma-informed responses and better support survivors and their resilience.

Sauda Keita is a compassionate and driven individual who is deeply committed to championing the well-being and empowerment of women and girls, both in her Gambian community and on a broader scale. As a first-generation Gambian Canadian, she brings a unique perspective and passion to her advocacy work. She is currently attending her first year at the University of Toronto’s master's of social work program. Furthermore, Sauda is a project assistant at Women's Health and Women's Hands, where she is deeply involved in projects and community engagement efforts aimed at supporting women who have experienced the practice of female genital mutilation (FGM). Her involvement in this cause reflects her commitment to ending harmful cultural practices and promoting the health and rights of women and girls. As she continues her journey, Sauda remains steadfast in her pursuit of social justice and equality. Her goal is to contribute to creating a society where all individuals can thrive, free from gender-based violence and discrimination. With her unwavering commitment and dedication, Sauda aims to be a catalyst for positive change and provide a sense of hope for those she supports.
